* Feeble minded.
* Handicapped.
* The “R” word.
* Earning $1/hr.
These are the words used to describe the most vulnerable among us. In many instances, Children born with developmental disabilities were put into institutions where they would live out their lives.
Sounds like something from the Dark Ages? No. This was 30 to 40 years ago that these ‘houses of horrors” existed. These folks were somehow considered ‘less-than’. Life expectancy was short. Career choices were limited. As recently as 2022, certain employers pay a disabled employee less than $1/hour and it is legal under the Fair Labor Standards Act Section 14C. Where an employee has an incontinence problem and soiled them self with the choice of either going home unpaid or to change undergarments with some used undergarments from the shelf.
But there is hope. There are people who can change this. People like you.
Imagine a house and making it a place where just a few disabled people live. Where there is a staff person there to help with medical, emotional, mental, and physical needs. Job placement assistance is provided. Love, nurturing, and care are abundant while respect, honor, dignity, and a chance to the most they can be exists for them to thrive.
Your generous gift of any amount will go to aid this dream coming true for many and for the continuation of the dreams some are already experiencing.
